I’ve used coconut oil for cooking, as a natural skin lotion, hair conditioner and more. But how about for our dogs?
In an email post a few weeks ago, I wrote about some foods that are good for your pets. Today, we are adding coconut oil to the mix! As always, check with your veterinarian to see if coconut oil is right for your dog.
There are sooooo many benefits, but as not to bombard you, I will list a few of my favorites.
Ingesting coconut oil can help with:
Reduce bad breath
Boost immune system
Reduce joint pain
Reduce arthritis symptoms
Topically, coconut oil can help:
Keep the coat shiny and moist
Bring relief to itchy, dry skin
Help reduce skin allergies
Help with eczema
How much should I give my pet?
Again, check with your vet first to make sure it is simpatico with your dog. A little goes a long way! As with introducing new foods, begin with a little– at 1/4 teaspoons interval.
According to dogs naturally magazine, 1/4 teaspoon twice daily for every 10lbs of body weight is a good start.
As a firm believer in food as medicine for humans, why not try it with your dog?
Love to know if you are tying this already or starting now. Let us know in the comments.
